Coach's Field DutiesUpdated Thursday April 14, 2016 by Frank Cecconi.
Coaches and Assistants,, it is important that we continue to keep our fields and complex in good shape.
Before and after practices and games, there are things that need to be done on a daily basis to keep our fields playable:
Arrive early enough for your game to make sure your field is lined, bases in and ready to play. You should not start batting practice before this is completed.
Infields must be dragged or raked after every practice (If you don’t know how to use the groomer ask, someone will gladly show you how to operate)
Pitching mounds should be raked by hand filling in the holes in front of the mounds that kids love to dig (rakes are available in the shed). If holes develop in front of the pitching rubber, there is infield mix under the white tarp along the tree line behind the right field line of field 2. This goes for any low spots you happen to see on any of the infields
Baselines and Pitching Mounds on Fields 2 and 3 should be raked by hand making sure not to rake the infield mix into the grass.
Bases need to be removed and the holes filled with the base plugs every night. Missing plugs cause a major issue after the groomer is run on the fields. Trust me you don’t want to be that coach the next night digging around for 10 minutes trying to find the bases prior to your game because they were filled in with dirt. If you need to use the dig-out tool to get the base in, please make sure that the tool gets returned to the shed. You have no idea how many of these tools we lose every year.
Dugouts should be cleaned up of any bottles, trash, etc.
If you see trash on the ground, especially under the bleachers, pick it up and place it in a trash can.
Arrive early enough for your game to make sure your field is lined, bases in and ready to play. You should not start batting practice before this is completed. Yes, it is that important that we included twice
Machine Pitch Leagues – make sure your pitching machine and extension cords are put away neatly if it is no longer needed after your game is over. The machines and cords go in the pump house which is on the opposite side of the shed.
There is a board member on site every night and on Saturday to close up the complex, but please do not expect that they will take care of these responsibilities for you.
